Großschönau, Austria
About
Founded in 2007, PAN-Projekt is a foundation based in Großschönau, Austria working on education, children & youth, environment & climate +2 more.
The PAN-Projekt is a community project in Harmannstein in the Waldviertel region of Lower Austria, run by the charitable private foundation Privatstiftung PAN, established in December 2007. The foundation's purpose is to promote children and young people and to develop the PAN-Projekt as an educational model for 'new learning', focused on life competence and self-discovery. A community of around 26 people lives and works on site, combining organic self-sufficient farming (crops, livestock, gardens), craft workshops and an educational offer. The former private Freilandschule, a free-range school for children aged 6 to 15, closed after the 2024/25 school year; the LERNRAUM PAN training programme for 16- to 18-year-olds continues. The site also hosts courses, workshops, children's animal walks and events open to the public, and sells its produce and handicrafts through an online shop and local outlets. The on-site companies PAN-Projektewerkstatt GmbH and WIR Nordwälder GmbH are separate commercial entities that produce soil and plant inputs and provide workshop services. The foundation is supported by donations and bequests.
