About

Founded in 2004, People In Need is a foundation based in Limburg, Germany working on children & youth, education, gender equality +2 more.

People In Need Gerhard Baumgard Stiftung is a German charitable foundation, established in 2004 and registered in Germany under German foundation law. It supports disadvantaged and vulnerable children and youth in Myanmar, with a focus on education, vocational training, child protection, care for women and girls affected by violence or trafficking, and support for children in HIV-affected families. The foundation was founded by Dr. Gerhard Baumgard, who had worked with Médecins Sans Frontières in Indonesia and Thailand. Because it wanted to operate without government restrictions, it did not register in Myanmar and instead works through local non-governmental organisations, churches, monasteries and charitable foundations at grassroots level. Projects are identified locally, vetted by the foundation, and monitored by local partners and foundation staff. The foundation also provides emergency aid after disasters such as cyclones, floods and earthquakes. Its projects are largely funded by large international donors, its own funds and contributions from supporters in Europe and America. Donors can receive receipts for German tax relief.
