PVD Sever Maribor

Founded in 1997, PVD Sever Maribor is a non-profit association based in Maribor, Slovenia working on heritage, democracy & civil society.

Policijsko veteransko društvo Sever Maribor is a voluntary, non-profit association of participants in the Slovenian independence war (1991) who served in the police, both active and reserve, and took part in protecting democratic processes in Slovenia or in armed clashes during independence. Based in Maribor, the association organises commemorative ceremonies and memorials, maintains memorial sites, and runs the traveling exhibition on the 1991 war in schools and public venues, mainly in the Maribor and Štajerska region. It also works to preserve friendships among members, support wounded police officers and the families of those who died in the war, and inform the public about the role of police in the independence process. Members pay an annual fee and take part in shooting, skiing, bowling and other sports competitions organised with other veteran associations. The association is part of the Zveza policijskih veteranskih društev Sever and is structured into local committees.
