About

Founded in 2015, Refugee Law Clinic Bochum is a non-profit association based in Bochum, Germany working on refugees & migration, justice & legal aid.

Refugee Law Clinic Bochum e.V. is a volunteer association based in Bochum, Germany, that provides free legal advice to refugees on asylum and residence law. The association was founded at the end of 2015 by law students and began its advisory practice in 2016. Student legal advisers work under the supervision of an advisory board made up of qualified lawyers and specialists in migration law, in cooperation with the Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Because the advice is limited to asylum and residence law, the association does not take on matters such as tenancy law or criminal defence and does not represent clients in court. Beyond casework, the association trains students through an annual lecture series, publishes research and articles on migration law, and runs public events such as an outreach round table and public discussions. It is funded by membership fees, donations and grants, and is recognised as a charitable (gemeinnützig) registered association.
