Refugio Mazatlán

Refugio Mazatlán is a charity based in Mazatlán, Mexico working on children & youth, education, housing & homelessness.

Refugio Mazatlán is a free residential home in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, for boys who are homeless, orphaned, neglected, abused or living in poverty. It focuses on adolescents of middle and high school age, providing a safe home, schooling supplemented with tutoring from teachers, psychological therapy, career mentoring, and support to attend university or learn a trade. Residents sign agreements committing to the home's rules and to completing their education, and can stay for their entire schooling. The home houses about 20 to 25 boys in an 800 m2 two-story building in the Centro district and is staffed by eight people. It is run with support from Fundación Lansdown A.C., which provides most of its operating funds, and from Un Futuro Mejor, Inc., a Colorado, USA non-profit with 501 status. Gems of Mazatlán, a Canadian charity, also helps fund the home. The organisation's stated vision is a world where every boy can break free from the cycle of poverty.
