About
Founded in 1982, San Francisco AIDS Foundation is a charity based in San Francisco, United States working on health, addiction, lgbtq+.
San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) is a nonprofit based in San Francisco, California, founded in 1982 in response to the emerging HIV and AIDS crisis as a volunteer telephone hotline. It now provides sexual health and substance use services, community support, HIV prevention and advocacy for communities most affected by HIV, prioritising people living with HIV, gay, bisexual and queer men, transgender and gender non-binary people, and people who inject drugs, with a focus on people of color, people experiencing homelessness, and people with mental health care needs. SFAF runs public policy and advocacy work at local, state and federal levels, including a lawsuit opposing anti-transgender and anti-DEI executive orders, and shares its prevention and care models with clinics and researchers worldwide. Cycle to Zero, a three-day fundraising bike ride from San Francisco to the Russian River and back, is its main fundraising event. It succeeds the AIDS/LifeCycle ride, which ran from 1994 and raised over 330 million dollars. Registration fees are non-tax-deductible, while donations above them are tax-deductible.
