SC Hospital

Founded in 2017, SC Hospital is a charity based in Mwanza, Tanzania working on health, poverty & hunger.

The SC Hospital (St. Clare Hospital) in Mwanza, Tanzania, provides low-cost medical care to patients regardless of their ability to pay, with subsidies from the paying private patients. It grew from a clinic opened in 2015 at a Poor Clare convent, registered as St. Clare Clinic in 2017, and became a hospital in 2020. Its operation was handed to a Tanzanian operating company in 2021, while the non-profit SC Clinic-Foundation, founded by Dr. Thomas Brei, owns the facilities and supports development through donations. Services include general outpatient care, maternity and paediatrics, and physiotherapy, with planned expansion into endoscopy, a blood bank and optics. Services are guided by the principles of solidarity and subsidiarity from Catholic social teaching.
