Seniorpartner in School (SiS) is a volunteer association of active senior citizens founded in Berlin in 2001. Its trained volunteers work as school mediators, helping pupils resolve conflicts non-violently through mediation and offering supportive one-to-one conversations with young people in difficult situations. The federal association, based in Berlin, coordinates 14 state associations, which recruit, train and supervise the volunteer mediators and partner with schools across Germany. The organisation aims to prevent violence in schools and after-school centres, promote peaceful coexistence in a multicultural democratic society, and support the social and intercultural integration of the children it works with. Its activities are funded through private donations, sponsors and public grants, and its financial reports are published under the Initiative Transparente Zivilgesellschaft.
