Solidaridad Internacional (Nazioarteko Elkartasuna) is a non-governmental development organisation based in the Basque Country, Spain, declared of public utility. Founded in 1989 as the Asociación Vasca para la Cooperación Solidaridad Internacional, it works to eradicate poverty and inequality, addressing its economic, religious, cultural and environmental causes with a feminist perspective. Its cooperation model strengthens civil society organisations in the countries where it works and promotes social and environmental sustainability. Its work covers development programmes, humanitarian action and emergency aid, gender equality, women's rights, human rights, environmental protection and food sovereignty, education for social transformation, and citizen participation. It operates in countries including Haiti, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, El Salvador, Senegal and Lebanon, and runs offices in Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Donostia-San Sebastián. The organisation also carries out research, evaluations and campaigns on human rights and gender issues, and offers training in co-development and development education.
