About
Founded in 2021, Stiftung Martinskirche is a foundation based in Basel, Switzerland working on arts & culture, heritage.
Stiftung Martinskirche is a non-profit foundation based in Basel, Switzerland, that has operated the historic Martinskirche since 2022 under a long-term lease from the Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Basel-Stadt. Its charitable purpose is the public-benefit use of the church and its adjoining rooms at Martinskirchplatz, which it rents at low cost to musical and artistic institutions for concerts and rehearsals. The foundation also manages the venue's infrastructure, including lighting, sound, seating and backstage rooms, and rents spaces for other events. Since its founding in August 2021, it has carried out renovation projects covering toilets, lighting, fire-escape planning, seating comfort, the stage and the Saal Basso and Saal Alto rooms, largely funded by donations, foundation grants and rental income. The Martinskirche is a nationally significant listed heritage building, and the foundation works with the cantonal heritage authority on its upkeep.
