The Szigetközi Természetvédelmi Egyesület (SZITE) is a Hungarian public-benefit civil association founded in 2006 with its seat in Dunasziget. It works for the protection of nature and the environment in the Szigetköz region of north-western Hungary, between the Danube and the Mosoni-Duna. Its activities include coordinating the local nature and environmental protection interests, organising guided walks and river clean-ups, running a bird-monitoring programme with an online interactive map, and environmental education. It takes part in water-management debates concerning the Danube's side-channel system, flood safety and the restoration of the Ásványi and Bagaméri branches, and it proposes technical and ecological solutions to the authorities. The association is based on the voluntary work of its members and has received several grants for its projects. It also campaigns for a Szigetköz-Csallóköz national park and the sustainable management of the region's landscape.
