Tafel NRW

Founded in 2012, Tafel NRW is a non-profit network based in Neuss, Germany working on poverty & hunger, humanitarian aid & disaster relief.

Tafel Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V. is the state umbrella association of the Tafeln in North Rhine-Westfalen, Germany. The non-profit association represents and supports more than 170 local Tafeln with over 500 distribution points. Its work is to rescue surplus food that is still fit for consumption and distribute it to people experiencing poverty. Its main tasks include operating regional distribution and logistics centres (seven to eight across the state, including one in Coesfeld) that receive large donations from food producers and retailers and pass them on to local Tafeln. It also coordinates volunteers, represents the local Tafeln in policy and lobbying, handles major donor acquisition and public relations, and supports Tafeln after emergencies such as the 2021 floods in the Eifel. The association is funded through donations and public grants, including funding from the state government and the Deutsche Postcode Lotterie. It is recognised as charitable and does not charge membership fees. Around 600,000 people in NRW were reported to rely on Tafeln in recent years. The association was founded in 2012 in Düsseldorf and is registered at the Düsseldorf local court.
