About
Founded in 1920, The ERA Foundation is a grant-making foundation based in London, United Kingdom working on employment & skills, education, science & research.
The ERA Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation based in London that supports the UK electech manufacturing sector. It runs and funds engineering, innovation and skills development programmes, including industrial and enterprise fellowships, entrepreneurship awards and the Born to Engineer outreach campaign. It traces its origins to 1920, when the Electrical Research Association was founded as the British Electrical and Allied Industries Research Association. The Foundation was created when the original research association's operations moved to a trading company, ERA Technology, and the remaining limited-by-guarantee company was renamed The ERA Foundation. It manages endowment funds from that sale and works in partnership with the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society. Its stated aims are to ensure the electech manufacturing sector's role in the UK economy is recognised, to support the next generation of UK engineers, and to encourage entrepreneurship, innovation and technical excellence.
