About
Founded in 2011, Totonga Bomoi is a non-governmental organisation based in United States working on employment & skills, poverty & hunger, gender equality +2 more.
Totonga Bomoi is a non-profit organisation founded in 2011 by Katie Hile that works to build economic opportunity and peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It runs sewing apprenticeships, business education and cooperative formation for women and young people, mainly in northeastern Congo around Aru and Watsa. The first artisan cooperative was established in Aru in 2014, and the organisation reports having trained more than 250 women across Congo. Artisans make handbags, accessories and school uniforms, which are sold to customers abroad to fund the cooperatives; uniforms made in training are also given to orphans and families in need. Totonga Bomoi also runs a community programme in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Lincoln Project, which links native residents with immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs. The organisation is a 501(c)(3) charity and is governed by a volunteer board.
