Veterans Off-Grid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017 by Army veteran Ryan Timmermans and based in Carson, New Mexico, near Taos. It works to provide housing stability for homeless veterans, help prevent veteran suicide, and support veterans' reintegration into society through job skills training, relationships and community. Its main site is building sustainable off-grid housing using earthship and hyper adobe methods, and it runs green building training, sustainable farming, including an NRCS-funded hoop house, and behavioural health and wellness programmes. Volunteers, including veterans and non-veterans, help build the site, and the organisation works with local partners in Taos County. Its planned community is intended to house 40 to 60 veterans on a 50-acre property.
