Villa Atl is a non-profit Asociación Civil based in Santa María Xonacatepec, Puebla, Mexico, founded in 1998. It works to conserve the ajolote del altiplano (Ambystoma velasci), the endemic axolotl species of the La Malinche area, through captive breeding of healthy colonies for reintroduction into wild water bodies and the restoration of the surrounding forest. Its work also includes non-formal environmental education, youth leadership development through Scouts-linked programmes, and a camping and visitor space with a sanctuary for axolotls. The organisation is run by young people committed to the environment and relies on donations, volunteers, corporate partnerships and product sales with a cause to fund its activities.
