About
Founded in 1989, Weglaufhaus Villa Stöckle is a non-profit association based in Berlin, Germany working on mental health, housing & homelessness, human rights.
The Verein zum Schutz vor psychiatrischer Gewalt e.V. (Association for Protection against Psychiatric Violence), known as Weglaufhaus Villa Stöckle, is a non-profit association founded in 1989 by people affected and not affected by psychiatry. It runs the Weglaufhaus Villa Stöckle, an anti-psychiatric crisis centre in north Berlin that offers housing to homeless people or those at risk of homelessness who are in crisis, as an alternative to the psychiatric system. The association also operates Support, an individual case assistance project for adults across Berlin, and an antipsychiatric counselling centre. It organises self-help groups, including one on discontinuing psychotropic drugs, and the international conference In Search of the Rose Garden. Its statutes give psychiatry-affected members a right of veto, reflecting the principle of affected-person control. The association is recognised as non-profit and charitable and issues donation receipts on request. Its work is carried out by a team of staff, many of whom have their own experience of psychiatry, and it is funded through donations and official funding.
