About

Acorn Project is a renewable energy company headquartered in Aberdeen, United Kingdom specializing in Other.

Acorn is a CO2 transport and storage system developed as part of the Scottish Cluster to enable decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries. The project reuses existing onshore and offshore pipeline infrastructure to move captured CO2 from industrial operations in Scotland's Central Belt to permanent geological storage approximately 2.5 kilometres beneath the North Sea, more than 100 kilometres off the Aberdeenshire coast. At peak operation, the system has potential capacity to transport up to 20 million tonnes of CO2 per year. Acorn was submitted to the UK Government's Cluster Sequencing Track-1 process in 2021, secured reserve status, and subsequently entered Track-2 in July 2023 as one of two selected transport and storage systems. The UK Government confirmed funding support in the June 2025 Spending Review.
