AEGIR is an EU Commission-funded collaborative research project (October 2022 – September 2026) involving 30 partners from 9 European countries. The project develops integrated physical and digital solutions for deep energy renovation of buildings using circular economy principles. Physical components include modular prefabricated envelope systems with renewable energy integration (solar PV, thermal storage), bio-based and recycled insulation materials, and reused building components. Digital services include a Common Data Environment (CDE) with BIM-based collaboration tools, energy performance simulation, solar potential assessment, KPI evaluation dashboards, and digital twins for building monitoring. The solution targets the 85% of European building stock built before 2001 that does not meet low energy standards, addressing material circularity, resource efficiency, and regulatory compliance across multiple climate zones and building typologies.
