About
Founded in 2024, AfricaEnergyParks is a ngo headquartered in Accra, Ghana specializing in Solar, Biomass, Energy Storage.
AfricaEnergyParks is a Horizon Europe-funded project coordinated by Aarhus University, comprising 12 partners from 6 countries. The initiative demonstrates a sustainable model for energy access and climate resilience in rural African communities. The flagship renewable energy park in Ghana combines solar photovoltaics with battery energy storage, biomass combined heat and power units, and improved cookstoves to serve approximately 500 households, 40 small-medium enterprises, and 10 local institutions. The project employs a water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus approach, utilizing agricultural and food processing waste as feedstock through a circular economy model. Core components include a Solartainer energy system and biomass-to-syngas plant capable of producing up to 361.6 kWh daily. The project incorporates socio-technical analysis, community engagement, productive use of energy applications, and aims to develop a scalable model replicable across Africa.
