About
Founded in 2024, ATENA is a ngo specializing in Energy Storage.
ATENA is a Horizon Europe research project consortium comprising 12 leading European partners—8 industries, 2 SMEs, and 8 academic institutions—focused on advancing sodium-ion battery (NIB) technology. The project aims to design and validate high-performance sodium-ion battery cells and modules for stationary energy storage applications, with emphasis on scalability, sustainability, and European manufacturing. Key objectives include developing batteries with higher energy density and cycle life, reducing reliance on lithium and cobalt through abundant and sustainable materials, conducting life cycle assessments, and establishing a fully European battery value chain. The project aligns with EU strategic initiatives including the European Green Deal, Fit for 55, and the Strategic Energy Technology Plan.
