About
Founded in 2021, Best4hy-project is a ngo specializing in Hydrogen.
BEST4Hy is an international partnership project funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking under the EU's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation program. The project develops and validates existing and novel recycling processes for two key fuel cell technologies: Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) and Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC). Key objectives include bringing multiple recycling technologies to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5, enabling recovery of at least 90% of platinum from PEMs, 80% of ionomer, and 30% of recycled critical raw materials in SOFC cells. The project demonstrates closed-loop recycling by remanufacturing new fuel cell stacks and cells using recovered materials, with lifecycle assessments showing 20% overall greenhouse gas reduction. The initiative supports end-of-life strategy, quality validation of recovered materials, and regulatory compliance for recycling upscaling.
