The company has invented two breakthrough technologies: Biomass Catalytic Cracking (a gas-phase catalytic pyrolysis process) and a liquid-phase solvent dissolution process using an inexpensive, recyclable solvent. The BiCHEM technology, developed in collaboration with Delft University of Technology and Universidad Politécnica of Valencia, breaks down cellulose and hemicellulose into sugars that can be hydrogenated and converted into base chemicals for biodiesel, fuel additives, and environmentally friendly plastics. BIOeCON has collaborated with PETROBRAS on developing its liquid-phase solvent process over five years.
