About

Founded in 2011, Biofat-project is a government specializing in Biogas, Biomass.

BIOFAT (BIOfuel From Algae Technologies) is a 10-million-euro FP7 demonstration project funded by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme. The project involves ten partners from seven countries and focuses on demonstrating large-scale biofuel production from microalgae. It integrates the entire algae value chain, including optimized growth, starch and oil accumulation, and downstream processing for biofuel production. The project demonstrates an 'algo-refinery' approach that produces both biofuels and high-value co-products. Key objectives include proving energy efficiency, economic viability, and environmental sustainability of algae-based biofuels.
