Bioplat-EU (Viability and Sustainability Assessment of Bioenergy Value Chains on Underutilised Lands in the EU and Ukraine) is a Horizon 2020 research initiative focused on advancing sustainable bioenergy production. The project develops a comprehensive web-based platform featuring geospatial data mapping, a sustainability assessment tool (STEN), and a webGIS interface to help stakeholders identify suitable marginal and underutilized lands for non-food biomass production. Core project activities include creating a pan-European database of underutilized and contaminated lands, developing decision support tools for assessing environmental and socio-economic sustainability of bioenergy value chains, and organizing stakeholder workshops across target countries (Hungary, Spain, Italy, Ukraine, and Germany). The project coordinates with multiple research institutions and provides technical support on biomass production, market access, finance, and policy barriers.
