About
Founded in 2014, Biorefinery Glas is a ngo headquartered in Tralee, Ireland specializing in Biogas, Biomass.
Biorefinery Glas is a European Innovation Partnership Operational Group led by the Institute of Technology, Tralee, with five partners including Barryroe Co-operative, Carbery Group, GRASSA B.V., and University College Dublin. The project demonstrates a replicable small-scale biorefinery that converts freshly harvested grass into optimized cattle feed fiber, non-GMO protein concentrate for monogastrics, fructo-oligosaccharides, and grass whey for fertilizer or bioenergy applications. Key sustainability outcomes include 40% increase in usable protein per hectare, 25% reduction in nitrogen emissions from cattle excrement, and displacement of imported soybean feed. The initiative supports farmer diversification and knowledge exchange in the circular bioeconomy, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020.
