BTG Bioliquids is a Dutch renewable energy company specializing in fast pyrolysis bio-oil (FPBO) production from biomass residues. Founded in 2007 as a subsidiary of BTG Biomass Technology Group to commercialize pyrolysis technology developed at the University of Twente in 1987, the company converts sustainable biomass feedstocks such as sawdust, sunflower husks, straw, and roadside grass into bio-oil that can substitute for crude oil and natural gas. The company operates the Empyro plant in Hengelo, Netherlands (operational since 2015, producing 20 million litres annually), and has commissioned commercial installations in Finland (Green Fuel Nordic) and Sweden (Pyrocell). BTG Bioliquids provides modular pyrolysis plants with capacities up to 5 tonnes per hour, supply chain support, and technology licensing. The company has partnerships with TechnipEnergies for EPC services and signed a binding term sheet with Houston American Energy/Abundia for biomass-to-liquids and sustainable aviation fuel development.
