Cablegnosis is a European research initiative comprising 17 participants from 8 EU countries focused on delivering innovative cable technologies to support the EU's clean energy transition and 2050 targets. The project develops advanced insulation and conductor design technologies, high-performance environmentally friendly cable insulation materials, aging studies of superconducting cables, and AI-based tools for condition monitoring and diagnostics. Key innovations include novel HVAC/HVDC cable layouts for increased transmission capacity, lead-free wet-design cable materials, electrostatic separation and recycling methodologies for cable materials, cryogenic testing of superconducting cables, Physics Informed Neural Networks for fault detection, and cloud-based asset management platforms. Validation occurs across five European countries (Italy, UK, Greece, Hungary, Cyprus) with applications to strategic interconnections including UK-Morocco links and offshore wind developments.
