About
Founded in 2015, Cheap-GSHPs is a renewable energy company specializing in Geothermal.
Cheap-GSHPs is a multidisciplinary research initiative funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme (Grant No. 657982). The project focuses on developing and demonstrating easier-to-install, more efficient ground source heat exchangers (GSHEs) and heat pump solutions for retrofitting civil and historical buildings. Key objectives include improving vertical borehole installation technology, designing innovative coaxial steel and basket-type GSHEs at depths of 15-120 meters, and developing a decision support system for low-enthalpy geothermal system design and operation. The project targets a 25-30% reduction in GSHE installation costs and 1,800 tonnes per year CO2 emissions reduction. Demonstration sites span multiple European countries including Italy, Belgium, Greece, Germany, France, Ireland, Romania, Spain, and Switzerland.
