Ciriaf is an inter-university research consortium established in 1997 by the University of Perugia and University of Roma Tre, later joined by Universities of Florence, Pisa, L'Aquila, Rome La Sapienza, and Polytechnic of Bari. The center has over 100 members from 14 universities and operates laboratories at the University of Perugia's Faculty of Engineering equipped with acoustic measurement chambers, thermal analysis apparatus, infrared cameras, and environmental monitoring sensors. Research activities encompass pollution from physical agents, sustainable development, renewable energy, energy planning, building energy efficiency, sustainable mobility, and biomass applications. The center conducts doctoral programs, training courses, and participates in EU-funded projects (LIFE program, Horizon Europe). Staff includes researchers and engineers specialized in energy, thermal management, environment, transportation systems, and pollution control.
