COASTAL Biogas is a project initiative supported by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg South Baltic Programme. It develops solutions based on anaerobic digestion of cast seaweed for coastal regions, aiming to tackle Baltic Sea eutrophication while producing renewable biogas and high-quality organic fertilizers from marine waste biomass. The project organizes training workshops, conferences, and study tours across participating Baltic countries (Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Germany) to disseminate knowledge to local government units, waste management authorities, and biogas sector operators. Study tours have included visits to major biogas facilities such as Jordberga (Sweden) and Solrød (Denmark), the only facility in the Baltic region operating at industrial scale with cast seaweed co-digestion.
