The COMMUNITAS project is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative that places consumers organized in Energy Communities (ECs) at the forefront of the energy sector's digitalization, decentralization, decarbonization, and democratization. The project develops an open, interoperable Core Platform and 12 Innovative Solutions to enable citizens and prosumers to actively participate in energy markets. Key tools include OPTIMEMS (real-time optimization of distributed energy resources and demand response), NILM-GUI (non-intrusive load monitoring), and marketplace platforms for peer-to-peer energy trading and Guarantees of Origin. The project operates across 8 real-life pilot sites with diverse climate, social, and geographical contexts, and provides a comprehensive Knowledge Base offering legal, financial, social, and administrative guidance for establishing and managing energy communities.
