About
Founded in 2017, COOL DH is a ngo headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark specializing in Biomass, Geothermal, Solar.
COOL DH (Cool ways of using low grade Heat Sources from Cooling and Surplus Heat for heating of Energy Efficient Buildings with new Low Temperature District Heating Solutions) was a research and innovation project funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme (grant agreement No 767799). The project ran until September 2022 and focused on developing technological solutions for low-temperature district heating systems. Key innovations included new PE-RT plastic pipes with improved insulation, integrated oxygen and vapour barriers, weldable coupling methods, and leak detection systems. The project demonstrated solutions in two cities: Brunnshög district in Lund, Sweden, and areas in Høje-Taastrup, Denmark. Both demonstration sites showcased integration of renewable heat sources (solar, heat pumps, geothermal) and recovery of low-grade surplus heat from research facilities and industrial processes. The consortium included utilities, municipalities, and leading district heating specialists such as COWI A/S.
