About
DecarbonDHS is a ngo headquartered in Gdańsk, Poland specializing in Biomass, Energy Storage, Other.
DecarbonDHS (Decarbonization of District Heating Systems) is a collaborative project coordinated by the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery Polish Academy of Sciences. The project aims to address the heating and cooling sector, which consumes about half of the EU's energy, with district heating systems currently fueled mainly by coal and natural gas. The initiative promotes substitution of fossil fuels with renewable and sustainable solutions to achieve decarbonization, climate mitigation, and reduced energy dependence. Key focus areas include integrating renewable energy sources into district heating networks, assessing and improving existing heating infrastructure efficiency, exploring electricity cogeneration via organic Rankine cycle (ORC) in biomass systems, and evaluating biochar co-production potential. The consortium comprises 8 partners from Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Denmark, and Sweden, with a project budget of €1.8 million co-financed through the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2021-2027.
