About
DecomBlades is a renewable energy company headquartered in Denmark specializing in Wind.
DecomBlades is a collaborative innovation project funded by Innovation Fund Denmark that addresses the growing challenge of recycling end-of-life wind turbine blades. The project develops sustainable, cost-efficient recycling technologies and processes including pyrolysis, mechanical shredding, and cement co-processing to recover materials from decommissioned blades. A key output is the Blade Material Passport—a standardized specification that documents blade composition and material locations, enabling recycling companies to efficiently separate and process blade components. Major wind turbine manufacturers (Siemens Gamesa, LM Wind Power, Vestas) have committed to providing these passports. The consortium includes MAKEEN Energy (pyrolysis technology lead), HJHansen Recycling (preprocessing and shredding), 3B-Fibreglass (glass fiber remelting), FLSmidth (cement co-processing), and academic partners. The project demonstrates fibre-to-fibre circularity by proving recycled glass fiber can match virgin material quality, with initial trials targeting 5% substitution rates in glass fiber production.
