CSP systems use mirrors and reflectors to concentrate solar energy into high-temperature heat for electricity generation or industrial applications. The programme addresses the global CSP installed capacity of approximately 5 GW with additional 5 GW under construction. The initiative focuses on six sub-programmes: Line-Focusing CSP Systems, Point-Focusing CSP Systems, Thermal Energy Storage, Materials for CSP, Solar Heat for Industrial Processes, and Solar-Driven Thermochemical Processes. According to IEA forecasts, CSP could account for up to 11% of global electricity and 4% of European electricity by 2050. The research effort aims to increase efficiencies, decrease costs, and maintain European competitive advantage in the global CSP market.
