EFFECTOR is a groundbreaking European research project funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe Innovation Actions (grant agreement no. 101172820). The project aims to revolutionize portable electronics by developing highly efficient and sustainable organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells capable of harvesting low-intensity indoor light to power digital and wearable electronics, eliminating the need for traditional batteries. Key objectives include doubling the efficiency of non-toxic organic solar cells at industry-ready module scale, achieving 37% efficiency at academic scale, and doubling the electrical capacity of non-toxic supercapacitors. Applications include biometric smart cards, wearable health monitoring devices, and blockchain solutions, demonstrating how indoor light can sustainably power everyday devices in security, health surveillance, and IoT domains.
