ENERCIT is a citizen cooperative (SCIC - Société Coopérative d'Intérêt Collectif) that develops and operates renewable energy installations, primarily solar photovoltaic systems in the Tarn-et-Garonne department of France. Founded in 2016 as an association (Enercit 82), it was formally established as a SCIC with variable capital in 2017. The cooperative involves citizens, local institutions, and organizations in the energy transition. As of 2023, ENERCIT operates 14 photovoltaic installations with a combined capacity of approximately 600 kWh/year production, serving the energy needs of around 240 households and avoiding over 200 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. The company explores diversification into micro-hydroelectricity and solar thermal energy. ENERCIT operates on a participatory model where citizens become shareholders with €100 share units, democratically governing the cooperative through assemblies. The cooperative has expanded its membership from 205 shareholders (2022) to 223-224 (2023), with 92% being individual citizens.
