Energence is a local energy and climate agency (Agence Locale de l'Énergie et du Climat) serving the Pays de Brest metropolitan area with a population of 420,000 across 103 communes. Founded in 1998 through a partnership of public and industrial actors, the organization advises, informs, and raises awareness among all stakeholders on energy efficiency, renewable energy development, and climate change mitigation. Energence operates four operational divisions and is structured as a French association (loi 1901). The agency provides services including energy renovation guidance, support for energy poverty reduction since 2014, collective solar kit purchasing programs, public building optimization, and local climate engagement through educational events and quarterly newsletters. It is a member of the Breton network of local energy and climate agencies and part of the French federation of 40 similar agencies employing nearly 500 staff nationally.
