The cooperative installs and operates solar panels on rooftops of residential and business properties, with members sharing investment costs and receiving financial returns over approximately 25 years. The initiative was developed by the Dwarsgracht Entrepreneurs Association following a feasibility study conducted between May 2015 and April 2016. By 2022, the cooperative had installed panels on four rooftops in Giethoorn and Dwarsgracht, with involvement from 41+ residents and entrepreneurs. The cooperative supports members in accessing sustainable financing options, including a municipal interest-free sustainability loan for home insulation and renewable energy generation.
