Energiegenossenschaft Starkenburg eG is an independent, non-partisan citizen cooperative dedicated to expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the Starkenburg region of Hessen, Germany. Founded on December 15, 2010 by 13 citizens, the cooperative now has approximately 1,400 members. The organization develops and operates renewable energy projects with full citizen participation in financing and benefit-sharing. Key activities include solar photovoltaic installations (48 projects, ~7,639 kWp), wind energy (3 owned turbines, ~8.1 MW capacity), biogas facilities, hydroelectric feasibility studies, and public EV charging stations (9 locations). The cooperative finances projects through member capital shares and subordinated loans with 20-year terms. It operates a 100% subsidiary (ProjektSTARK GmbH) for cost-effective project execution and developed SolarSTARK-View for real-time yield monitoring. The cooperative also engages in international development, including solar irrigation projects in Mali (AfrikaSTARK 1). Operates under democratic governance with one member, one vote.
