EnergyPLAN is a deterministic input/output simulation model designed to assist in the design of national or regional energy planning strategies based on technical and economic analyses. The tool encompasses whole national or regional energy systems including heat and electricity supplies, transport, and industrial sectors. It has been continuously developed since 1999 by the Sustainable Energy Planning Research Group at Aalborg University in cooperation with PlanEnergi and EMD A/S. Key functionalities include modeling of future technologies such as biomass gasification and synthetic fuels, integration with TransportPLAN and IndustryPLAN modules, and support for analysis of 100% renewable energy systems and Smart Energy Systems. The model is distributed as freeware and has been used in hundreds of scientific publications.
