About
Founded in 2021, Equatic is a private headquartered in Los Angeles, United States specializing in Hydrogen.
Equatic uses an electrolytic seawater mineralization process to remove atmospheric carbon dioxide and produce green hydrogen. The technology splits seawater into acid and base streams, with the base stream contacted with air to remove CO2 which is then mineralized into stable carbonates and bicarbonates. The process achieves permanent storage of CO2 (over 10,000 years for aqueous bicarbonates, up to billions of years for solid carbonates). Equatic operates pilot facilities at the Port of Los Angeles (since March 2023) and previously at Tuas Desalination Plant, Singapore, each with 100kg/day CDR capacity. The company is constructing Equatic-1, the world's largest ocean-based carbon removal plant with 3,650 tonnes per annum (tpa) capacity, and planning a first commercial deployment capable of 109,500 tonnes CO2 removal and 3,600 tonnes carbon-negative hydrogen production annually by 2026. The company holds ISO 14064-2:2019 certification for greenhouse gas quantification and verification.
