ExPEDite is a Horizon Europe-funded initiative creating a digital twin platform for Positive Energy Districts (PEDs). The project addresses urban energy consumption, which accounts for 65% of global energy use and 70% of CO2 emissions. The digital twin enables real-time monitoring, visualization, and management of district-level energy flows, integrating energy production and demand modeling, flexibility optimization, mobility simulation, and transport analysis. The platform employs gamification and co-creation to enhance public engagement in energy efficiency. Deployed in the RTU smart student city (Ķīpsala, Riga, Latvia)—a 17.5-hectare district with 15 buildings totaling 119,264 m2. The project will deliver reusable modeling tools, algorithms, practical guidelines, and training materials to support widespread adoption of sustainable energy practices across European cities.
