FEVER
Flexible Energy Production, Demand and Storage-based Virtual Power Plants for Electricity Markets and Resilient DSO Operation
About
Founded in 2020, FEVER is a ngo specializing in Solar, Wind, Energy Storage.
FEVER is a publicly-funded European research and innovation project under Horizon 2020 (Grant Agreement no 864537) with a budget of approximately 10 million euros. The project brings together 17 partners from Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Slovenia, and Spain including technology providers, research organizations, distribution system operators, and consultancies. FEVER develops and demonstrates solutions that leverage flexibility in electricity generation, consumption, and storage to optimize power grid management in the context of increasing variable renewable energy sources. Core focus areas include flexibility aggregation and management, novel electricity market mechanisms, advanced grid monitoring and automated control, and virtual power plant orchestration. The project implements three European pilots in Germany (regional flexibility exchange), Spain (aggregated flexibility for ancillary services), and Cyprus (local flexibility aggregation with battery storage and power-to-cold technologies). Solutions incorporate demand response, distributed storage, blockchain-based identity management, smart contracts, and advanced forecasting tools. The project concluded in January 2024.
