The Flexible Power Alliance Network (FAN) is a partnership of major Dutch energy sector organisations established in 2013. FAN aims to provide open standards for unlocking flexible energy in energy systems to create a sustainable, reliable, affordable and accessible energy supply. The organisation works to facilitate an open and fair energy system where local surpluses and shortages in sustainable energy are balanced through flexibility in supply and demand. FAN promotes the S2 standard, an official European standard for energy management that enables communication between smart devices such as heat pumps, EV chargers and solar inverters. The network brings together leading European energy companies, equipment manufacturers, grid operators and aggregators to advance smart energy solutions and demand-side flexibility.
