Flowatt is a flagship marine tidal energy project located in Raz Blanchard, one of the world's most energetic tidal current zones. Developed by HydroQuest (French leader in marine tidal turbines) in partnership with Qair (independent renewable energy producer), the project aims to install 6 latest-generation HQ 2.8 tidal turbines with a combined capacity of 17 MW. The farm will feature fully submerged, seabed-moored turbines designed to minimize visual, noise, and maritime disturbances. Each turbine is engineered for 25-year operational life with simplified design for improved reliability. The project has secured €75 million in French government investment grants and repayable advances, plus a 20-year feed-in tariff, and €20 million from the EU Innovation Fund. A 250 MW commercial tender for the same site is planned by 2030, with potential to create 6,000 jobs in France.
