Founded in 1988, Fraunhofer IEE is a non-profit headquartered in Kassel, Germany with approximately 201-500 employees specializing in Solar, Wind, Hydrogen.

Fraunhofer IEE is an applied research institute in Kassel, Germany, focused on transforming energy supply systems. Its work covers renewable energy integration, power converters and grid stability, grid planning and operation, grid resilience and blackout recovery, energy informatics and AI-based forecasting, energy meteorology and geoinformation systems, wind energy, solar integration, green hydrogen and power-to-X, district heating and geothermal heat, and energy data spaces. Beyond research, it offers feasibility studies, technology scouting, prototypes and demonstrators, workshops, training and licensing of its methods and software. Founded in 1988 as ISET e.V., it was integrated into Fraunhofer IWES in 2009 and became an independent institute in 2018. It is part of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and is certified to ISO/IEC 27001.
