Founded in 2018, Freesunshine is a ngo headquartered in Durban, South Africa specializing in Solar.

Freesunshine is an educational initiative that operates a temporary electronics lab providing free solar-powered robotics workshops across South Africa. The core activity involves building gggabts—small solar-powered robots using sun eater circuits, printed circuit boards, solar cells, motors, and mechanical components. The project aims to increase access to electronics education and awareness of renewable energy, particularly in disadvantaged communities. Freesunshine also uses the gggabts as a form of protest against restrictive energy regulation in South Africa that requires citizens to register and pay for small-scale renewable energy generators. The project has conducted over 250 workshops in Durban and Eastern Cape, engaging learners from schools and communities with limited electricity access.
