About
Founded in 2019, Geodrill-project is a ngo headquartered in Cambridge, United Kingdom specializing in Geothermal.
Geo-Drill is a European research and innovation project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme (Grant 815319) comprising 12 international partners. The project develops integrated drilling technologies to address the high capital expenditure and long development cycles that hinder geothermal energy adoption. Key innovations include: (1) A robust down-the-hole (DTH) percussion hammer with bi-stable fluidic oscillator for improved rate of penetration (ROP) and cuttings transport; (2) High-fidelity drill monitoring based on low-cost, robust 3D-printed sensors and cables compatible with extreme geothermal environments; (3) Advanced surface coatings using nickel-phosphorus composites and graphene oxide-based materials to extend component life in high-temperature applications; (4) Integrated drilling system combining fluidic hammer, sensors, tool joint surfaces, and stabilizer coatings to minimize well bore damage and reduce overall cost-per-meter drilled. The project began in April 2019 with field testing underway.
